German Submarine to Israel

An official ceremony was held in the German City of Kiel on Thursday to celebrate the handing over of one of the world’s most sophisticated submarines. The German made Dolphin submarine, which has the ability to carry nuclear weapons is now in the possession of the Israeli Navy.

The name of the submarine is the Tanin (“alligator” in Hebrew). Israel’s Defense Minister Ehud Barak asserts that the submarine will increase Israel’s capabilities and strength “in the face of the growing regional challenges.” Military experts say the Dolphins could be deployed to the Gulf as part of an Israeli strike on Iran.

Germany and Israel have an awkward but solid relationship. Germany has a sense of guilt because of the 2nd world war—the Fatherland has attempted to make amends by being a supporter of Israel. After the United States, no one gives more financial help to Israel than does Germany. Germany is Israel’s most faithful ally in Europe.

Two more German submarines will be delivered to Israel–one in 2014 and another in 2017. The danger for Israel is that she is relying too much on weapons for her protection. Ancient Israel and Judah made the tragic mistake of relying on their armies and weapons—God was not pleased with this.

Isaiah 31:1 offers wise advice: Woe to those…, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the LORD.
