"Israel is An Insult"

Steven LeBlanc

Israel’s existence is an “insult to all humanity,” Iran’s president said Friday in one of his most inflammatory attacks yet against the Jewish state, he was addressing worshipers at Tehran University. Iranian insults continue as Israel openly debates whether to attack Iran over its nuclear program.

According to the widely read Israeli daily Yedioth Aharonot, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak favor hitting Iranian nuclear sites before America’s Presidential election, but the challenge they have is trying to win over certain senior government and military officials.

Certain military leaders are concerned that a strike deep into Iran will create a war that may kill more Israeli citizens that originally believed. When war breaks out it is difficult to predict how many casualties there will be, or how long the war will last. They also question if a strike will do enough damage to the nuclear sites to warrant the consequences that will follow.

Ehud Barak has recently stated that the Iranian threat has become “more urgent”, implying a strike may be sooner (within the next months), as opposed to sometime in early 2013. Israel cannot assume, as do many leaders in the West, that threats from Iran are only bloated rhetoric. One Israeli leader, high up in government circles said, “We once paid a very high price for assuming Hitler was talking rhetoric”.

There is also talk that if Israel strikes Iran, Iran’s proxy Hezbollah may attack Israel. The leader of the Lebanese Shiite militant Hezbollah (Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah), who is close to Iran’s leaders, says his people will change the lives of millions of Israelis to “hell” if Israel attacks Lebanon.

Be mindful that the Jewish state of Israel can be a fierce adversary, and on several occasions has fulfilled a prophecy found in Genesis 49:8-9:

Judah, your brothers will praise you. Your hand will be on the necks of your enemies;
your father’s sons will bow down to you. Judah is a young lion —my son, you return from the kill. He crouches; he lies down like a lion or a lioness—who dares to rouse him?
