Big victory for Israel

“After 52 years it is time for the United States to fully recognize Israel’s Sovereignty over the Golan Heights,” tweeted President Donald Trump, a reference to the strategic mountains, on Israel’s northern border, which it captured from Syria in the Six-Day War in 1967.

“I’ve been thinking about doing that for a long time, it’s been a very hard decision for every president, no president has done it,” Mr. Trump later told the Fox Business Network, referring to his Golan statement. “For years other presidents have campaigned, they said they’d do it. This is sovereignty, this is security, this is about regional security.”

Mr. Netanyahu then penned on Twitter. “At a time when Iran seeks to use Syria as a platform to destroy Israel, President Trump boldly recognizes Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. Thank you President Trump!”

Mr. Netanyahu has often pressed for the U.S. to accept Israel’s sovereignty over Israel-controlled parts of the Golan Heights, which Israel grabbed from Syria during the Six Day War in 1967, and then commandeered the territory in 1981 despite international censure. He said it was vital in part since Iran would seek to use Syria as a base to assault Israel.

“President Trump has just made history,” Mr. Netanyahu asserted. “He did it again, first he recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and moved the U.S. embassy here, then he pulled out of the disastrous Iran treaty and imposed sanctions but now he did something of equal historic importance.”

Mr. Netanyahu is facing elections in less than three weeks, and he might lose. Harassed by scandals and the prospect of prosecution for financial transgressions, Mr. Netanyahu is in political trouble, and President Trump’s tweet about the Golan may be just what Mr. Bibi Netanyahu needs to firm up his support with Israel’s brash right-wing, which admires President Trump.

The prophetic significance of the news story is that once again Israel again stirred up hatred within the Islamic world. Soon many nations in the Arab world will agree to attack Israel, see the prophecy in Psalm 83. The timing of the prophecy is according to God’s design. Now we will watch to see Syria’s reaction to Israel’s Golan Heights ownership.

President Assad of Syria is among one of the basest of men who continues to rule in the Middle East (Daniel 4:17); that whole region will only become more exhausting as we move forward into 2019. –Steven LeBlanc
