Germany & Prophecy

The purpose of this booklet is to focus your attention on the continent of Europe and one nation in particular, Germany. Germany is already an imposing political and economic power; but in time the “Fatherland” will rise to become even greater, posing a military threat to America and many other of the great nations of the world. Do not forget, twice in the last century Germany’s attempts to dominate Europe by military means left the continent economically devastated and covered with blood. Adolf Hitler understood Europe’s towering significance when he stated in 1943:

“Whoever controls Europe will thereby seize the leadership of the world. It must therefore remain the objective of our struggle to create a unified Europe, but Europe can only be given a coherent structure through Germany.”

One final effort to conquer Europe lies yet ahead. Germany is certain to play a role in this future conquest. And Bible prophecy also says God will employ a German-led European “Beast” power as a punishing rod to bring America, Britain, and Israel to their knees just before Christ returns.

Germany is the dominant power in Europe today. Russia, France, Britain, and Italy do not come close to exercising the economic or political clout of Germany. Yet most Americans are asleep to the significance a German-led Europe plays in the political and economic sphere of the world. Germany, because of its financial strength, has become the undisputed leader of Europe.

Just how potent is the German economy? Germany is the fourth most-powerful economy in the world behind the United States, China, and Japan – nations that have a much larger population base: China (1.4 billion), USA (313 million), (Japan 128 million), and Germany (82 million). German cars, trains, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and electrical equipment are sought around the world.

Deutschland (Germany) is the world’s second largest exporting nation. Only China exports more goods to world markets than Germany. Germany is the leading nation of the EU, a union of 28 European countries consisting of over 500 million citizens. The EU is the world’s largest trading bloc and is engaged in more global trade annually than the United States.

American business is very much in need of European markets as a rich outlet for her goods and services. To put it bluntly, America and China need to sell goods to Europe. If Europe goes into a severe recession, American business suffers causing US companies to lay off workers because recession-strapped Europeans stop buying American products.

On the religious front many are unaware Germany is a major financial supporter of the Roman Catholic Church. No nation, with the exception of America, gives more each year to the Catholic Church. Why is this important? Because prophecy reveals that a formidable European agreement with the Catholic Church – a concordat between the Beast and the false Church – will soon be forged. Money and politics are the best of friends.

Our purpose in placing these facts before you is to wake you up to the storm without equal that will soon descend upon our nation. The Bible tells us a rising European Beast power will be used by God to inflict severe punishment upon America for her rapid moral decline involving adultery, murder, pornography, abortion, lawlessness, and increasing disrespect for the marriage covenant. We as a people stubbornly cling to decadent behavior while many of our churches minimize the law of God or claim it has been “done away”. Every year our national leaders embrace evil on a greater scale, demanding tolerance for every sort of evil devise. Our courts have become devoid of common sense. Our society is rapidly becoming intolerant of those who refuse to engage in America’s sins. God’s justice and love demand national chastisement.

As a result of our relentless moral depravity, a terrifying prophecy in the book of Isaiah will soon come to pass. National punishment awaits us:

“I send him (a German-led European power) against a godless nation (America), I dispatch him against a people who anger me, to seize loot and snatch plunder, and to trample them down like mud in the streets.” Isaiah 10:6.

1

Europe’s Bloody History

GERMANY & PROPHECY

Europe is important prophetically because it will be home to what the Bible calls “the Beast” – a final political, economic, and military union of nations that will draw the world into a devastating and final third world war. This final world war continues Europe’s history that is fraught with major conflicts and economic turmoil. Let’s take a moment to consider Europe’s war-torn past. Though our modern leaders tend to ignore it, it is wise to remember history has an uncanny way of repeating itself, not in exact detail but in its general themes.

The constant theme running throughout European history is war.

Europe as a continent has seen more wars fought on its home turf than the continents of Asia, Africa, and the Americas combined. Since the 1400s over 320 wars have been fought on European soil. Recorded history tells us that the 20th century comprised the bloodiest years the world has ever seen. The two great wars, World War I and World War II, began on the continent of Europe. Over 16 million died in World War I, and conservative estimates place the death toll of World War II at 55 million. Most of these deaths took place within the European theater.

Don’t assume that in the Second World War the death toll was made up of mostly soldiers. Timothy Snyder writes in his insightful book Bloodlands that millions of civilians died in Europe: “In the middle of Europe Nazi & Soviet regimes murdered some 14 million people…Yet not a single one of the 14 million was a soldier on active duty. Most were women, children, and the aged; none were bearing weapons; many had been stripped of their possessions, including their clothes” (Bloodlands: Europe between Hitler and Stalin; see Preface). The “Bloodlands”, where many of the innocent died, extended from central Poland to western Russia, through the Ukraine and on into the Baltic States. More than half died from starvation, being denied food by Russian and German soldiers.

In the 1930s and 40s ethnic hatred reached heights never seen before in Europe. In 1933 nine million Jews lived in the 21 countries of Europe that became occupied by Nazi Germany during World War II. The killing factories (death camps) that systematically murdered Jews, Poles, Russians, Gypsies, Slavs, Belarusians, Ukrainians, and many others, including the physically disabled, were situated in Europe. By 1945 two out of every three European Jews had been killed. European soil was awash in a sea of blood.

Why is Europe So Vulnerable to War?

You must appreciate that Europe is unique in its varied mix of people who identify passionately with distinct nations. Historians Pan and Pfeil count 87 distinct “peoples of Europe”, [Christoph Pan, Beate Sibylle Pfeil, Minderheitenrechte in Europa, Handbuch der europäischen

Volksgruppen (2002), Living-diversity.eu, English translation 2004]. These various ethnic groups each have their different culture, sensitivities, and hatreds. No wonder war routinely erupts on the European continent; ethnic hostility, more often than not, leads to violence.

Many believe that another world war is not likely, that we have learned our lesson from the past; but such thinking is naive. Mankind rarely learns from history – quite the opposite, people and nations make the same mistakes over and over again. The European Union was formed in an effort to lend stability to war-torn Europe. It is believed that if the nations of Europe are melded together in a political and fiscal union, then the nations of Europe will be much less likely to fight against each other, and peace will settle upon the continent of Europe. Bible prophecy tells us there will be a brief period of peace, but that peace will be an illusion.

Prophecy reveals that the “Bloodlands” of Europe will be saturated with blood once more. Because America, Britain, and the Northwestern democracies of Europe have all but denied God, He will rain down punishment upon them; and they will suffer horribly in the years ahead of us. The whole world will be dragged into this devastating war.

Revelation 17:12-13 reveals ten leaders will give their power and backing to an end-time European dictator referred to as “the Beast”…”the ten horns which you saw are ten kings…these are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast” (dictator). Verse 14: “These (the 10 allied rulers or leaders) will make war with the Lamb (Jesus Christ), and the Lamb will overcome them…” We will see that this final empire, characterized as a European beast, will be extant at the time of Jesus Christ’s return (Zechariah 14:3-4,9) and will be destroyed by Him.

Germany has always played a major role in Europe and will play an active role in this Beastlike system. George Santayana, who, in his book, The Life of Reason [Vol.1-Reason in Common Sense (1905)], wrote, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” German aggression will once again take its toll on the world at large, and the nations will be engulfed in Great Tribulation because of it.

And now let’s look at the prophetic framework that points to Europe as being the seat of the Beast’s power. We now see Germany, owing to its strong national character, being pushed to the forefront to take its place as leader in Europe. Along with it will emerge a “strong man” who will eventually lead the way for all Europe.

Why Europe?

GERMANY & PROPHECY

Some of you may ask: How can you be so certain that the Beast power is a European power? The Bible answers that question for us. The books of Daniel and Revelation place a spotlight on a political and religious system that was prophesied to continue to rear its head over and over again throughout history, right up to the return of Jesus Christ.

Prophecies in Daniel 2 can help us make sense of end-time events. In this chapter there are mentioned a series of great kingdoms that were to arise on the world scene down through history leading up to the very end when Christ returns to this earth.

Daniel, interpreting Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of a massive human image, revealed that the first of these kingdoms spoken of was the Babylonian Empire under Nebuchadnezzar himself (Daniel 2:28-38). It was to be followed by three other kingdoms (verses 39-40). Combining historical record with Daniel’s and other prophecies, it is clear that these four kingdoms were, in sequence, the Babylonian, Medo-Persian, Greco-Macedonian, and Roman Empires.

Speaking of the fourth and final kingdom – the Roman Empire – Daniel said it would be “strong as iron, breaking in pieces and shattering everything; and like iron that crushes, that kingdom will break in pieces and crush all the others” (verse 40). Prophecy asserts that Rome became fiercely aggressive, swallowing up the territories of Babylon, Persia, and Greece in a reign that lasted for hundreds of years.

In Daniel 7:4-7 the Bible compares the Babylonian Empire to a lion, the Persian Empire to a bear, the Greek Empire to a four-headed leopard, and the Roman Empire to a beast described as “terrible” having iron teeth, breaking into pieces and devouring peoples and nations (see verse 7). This is speaking of the same Roman kingdom we saw described in Daniel, chapter 2. This European beast is the power that will come against the United States before Christ returns.

Also, let’s not forget the warring Empire of Christ’s day was a European-centered power headquartered in Rome, Italy. Christ will take revenge upon this European empire, along with other warring nations, at his return. Geographically, the European Union today sits upon much of the same terrain where the old Roman Empire once thrived. The Beast John saw in Revelation was a European beast. It was a brutal, ruthless power that ruled large swaths of the European continent with an iron fist.

Historians recognize that the Roman Empire, founded in 31 BC, has risen and fallen many times throughout its long history. It is interesting to note that for nearly 1000 years a political entity in Europe was actually called the HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE. Notice the definition of this Empire as found in Peter H. Wilson’s book THE HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE 1495-1806 [(Studies in Europe), Paperback, July 2011, p. 1] where he states that, “…when the Empire was founded famously by Charlemagne on Christmas Day, AD 800…The concluding point will be when the Empire formally disappeared in the wake of Napoleon’s reorganization of central Europe, though as we shall see, its legacy for German politics persisted well beyond that date.”

History reveals that various dictators in Europe revived that Empire, many of them of Germanic descent. The resurrections were led by the following rulers: Justinian, who led the first revival of the Roman Empire in the sixth century; next was Charlemagne, crowned by the Pope in A.D. 800; then came Otto the Great, the German leader crowned in A.D. 962; followed by the Hapsburg Dynasty of Charles V , the Austrian Emperor crowned in A.D. 1520; then there was reign of Napoleon, the French head crowned in A.D. 1805; and, of course, the most destructive revival was led by Adolf Hitler. Hitler believed his Third Reich was to last a thousand years. It survived for only twelve. These men all sought to unite Europe into one integrated Kingdom. Before Christ returns a final dictator will attempt to do the same, and will succeed for a few short years in fulfilling the dream of a united European super-state.

Feet of Iron & Clay

Let’s take a look at this final European “Beast” empire as depicted in Daniel 2 where it is described as the feet of a great human image having ten toes:

“Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay. And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay” (Daniel 2:41-43).

The various nations of Europe, with their different languages, cultures, and biases depict a geopolitical Babylon – a mixture that can easily be described as iron and clay. Such a description is apt, as Europe is known for its ethnic, national, and cultural diversity. Remember, researchers Pan and Pfeil, in their Handbuch der Europäischen Volksgruppen, count 87 distinct “peoples of Europe”. The 28-member nations of the European Union recognize 23 official languages within that confederation. Bible prophecy makes it clear there will be a temporarily unified Beast system – a multicultural entity lasting only a short time. During this end-time period it will struggle to survive cultural and ethnic differences that will prove to be too complicated.

European history is filled with war, bloodshed, demagoguery, and religious conflict causing endless striving among nations. That pattern repeats just before Christ returns. That is why watching Europe is absolutely crucial. Prophecy reveals a particular country in Europe will be dominant during the end-time.

Let’s now take a look at a powerful nation that has often been hated and feared. That nation is Germany, a nation possessing an unparalleled track record of aggression and war.

 

 

CHAPTER

3

The German War Machine

It is almost impossible for Americans to appreciate how often war has plagued Europe. Remember, as we read previously, Europe is a dangerous mix of ethnic groups, cultures and nations all competing for business and natural resources.

Upon examination of Europe’s long history, it is rare for Europe to go five years without a war breaking out somewhere on the continent. War is the usual default persona of Europe. It is just a matter of a few short years before we see another European war.

Historically Germany’s geographical position in the center of the continent draws them into various European conflicts. Of course, German leaders were responsible for initiating some of these conflicts themselves. With a lethal combination of Prussian ancestry and violent dictators, no military establishment has garnered more attention than that of Germany in recent history.

War and its associated trail of famine, disease, and death have taken the lives of multiple millions of Europeans. In World War II alone the European death toll reached 40 million.

Germany played a pivotal role in that war as well as other European wars. The casualty rates incurred by Germany over its history are absolutely staggering. A quick review of major German wars will heighten your awareness of Germany’s default persona toward military conflict:

• The Thirty Years War (1618–1648). A series of wars fought mostly in Central Europe on the lands of what we call Germany today, It was one of the longest and most destructive conflicts in world history. This war was considered the worst European disaster since the Black Death in the 1300s. It is estimated that 8 million Europeans died, with Germany losing close to 40 percent of its citizens during this war. The male population of the German states was reduced by almost half (The Age of Religious Wars by Richard S. Dunn, paperback p.104).To give you a sense of scale by comparison, America lost 418,500 in World War II. The Thirty Years War resulted in millions of lives being lost and large areas of Germany being laid waste causing heartbreaking poverty; it took generations for Germany to recover.
• The Franco-Prussian War (1870 to 1871). Considered the most significant war fought in Europe between the time of the Napoleonic Wars (1803—1815) and the First World War, Prussia (Germany) defeated the French and united the many German states into what became the Great German Nation. This war established Germany as the greatest power on the European continent, though their death toll was well over 100,000.
• World War l (1914 to 1918). The seminal catastrophe that changed Europe, this war marked the fall of the great empires including the German, Austro-Hungarian (Hapsburg), Russian, and Turkish Ottoman empires. On both sides of the conflict millions of men rallied to their flags expecting a short “glorious” war. Instead millions were maimed, gassed, and killed in unimaginable numbers. Germany was not solely responsible for starting WWI but was the primary aggressor on the losing side. European nations became involved in a complex web of entangling alliances:

⋅  Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia,
⋅  Russia then entered the war to defend Serbia,
⋅  Germany, seeing Russia mobilizing, declared war on Russia; then she attacked France through Belgium, provoking Britain into war,
⋅  Japan entered the war on the side of Britain to protect Pacific sea lanes and to take control of German possessions in Asia,
⋅  Later, Italy and the United States entered on the side of the allies.

World War I took the lives of ten million soldiers. “The tally was two million dead for Germany, one million for Austria- Hungary. Germany lost fifty-five men every hour, thirteen hundred thirty for every day…These numbers do not include the numberless millions of civilians who had died in every imaginable way.” Among the dead were, “1.8 million Russians, nearly 1.4 million French, eight hundred thousand Turks, seven hundred twenty-three thousand British, five hundred seventy- eight thousand Italians, and one hundred fourteen thousand Americans” (A World Undone: The Story of the Great War, 1914 to 1918, by G.J. Meyer, p.705, paperback).

World War I left Germany exhausted bitter and economically broken. This paved the way for the world’s most destructive dictator, Adolf Hitler, and the world’s most devastating war.

• World War II (1939 to 1945). By 1942 the German Army controlled a landmass in Europe that was larger than America and more economically productive than anywhere else in the world. Controlling Europe was what mattered to the Nazis because Europe held the pivotal position in terms of the world’s population and industry. Hitler’s first goal was to unify Germans in Central Europe within a single German state. This ambition led to the most devastating war in world history: “There is no commonly agreed total of war-related deaths around the world, but a minimum figure of 60 million is accepted and perhaps as many as 10 million more. Japan’s losses were estimated at 2.69 million dead, 1.74 million of these military; two-thirds of the latter were victims of starvation or disease rather than enemy action. Germany lost 6.9 million dead, 5.3 million of these military. The Russians killed about 4.7 million German combatants, including 474,967 who died in Soviet captivity, and a substantial further number of civilians, while the Western Allies accounted for around half a million German troops and more than 200,000 civilian victims of air attack. Russia lost 27 million people, China at least 15 million. Some 5 million are reckoned to have died under Japanese occupation in SoutheastAsia, including the Dutch East Indies, present-day Indonesia. Up to a million perished in the Philippines, many during the 1944– 45 campaign for the islands’ liberation” [Hastings, Max (2011- 11-01) Inferno: The World at War, 1939-1945 (pp. 645-646). The Killing Factories

Soldiers were not the only ones to die in World War II, millions of civilians died as collateral damage. In fact, more civilians died than did military personnel. Many lost their lives in what today is termed “killing factories” or death camps. These “factories” were an invention of the feared German Reich, and were envisaged as efficient vehicles for getting rid of those who were considered inferior to or enemies of the German state. One nation in particular became the location of the most infamous killing factories in human history, the nation of Poland.

German-occupied Poland was turned into a massive prison complex containing over 400 camps and sub-camps. Jews from all walks of life, including women and children, were the primary victims of these death camps. The most infamous camps in Poland were Auschwitz-Birkenau (1.1 million Jews died at this twin camp complex), Treblinka (900,000 Jews were killed), Belzec (500,000 Jews were exterminated), Chelmno (160,000), Majdanek (59,000), and Sobibor (230,000). The Nazis killed approximately two-thirds of all of the Jews living in Europe. An estimated 1.1 million children were murdered in the Holocaust. Poland was the home to more Jews than any other nation in Europe. Three million Jewish Poles were beaten, gassed, shot, and starved to death.

Poland was sandwiched between Germany and Russia and suffered the wrath of the world’s most brutal dictators, Hitler and Stalin. The Polish nation lost more of its 34,849,000 pre-war population than any other nation. About 6 million perished during the German occupation constituting 17% of its total population.

Churchill’s Solution to European Wars

Winston Churchill, Britain’s Prime Minister during WW ll, suggested a solution to the seemingly endless wars of Europe– wars that were inflicting a devastating toll on women and children. In a speech in Zurich, Switzerland in 1946 he said, “we must build a kind of United States of Europe.”

Churchill was repeating the age-old vision of a Europe united in a peaceful union; a union that would finally drown out the individual ambitions of nations, and replace national sovereignty with a supra-national European super state composed of many nations. It would be a union that would encourage trade, tourism, and mutual respect.

European leaders believed that if Germany could be included in a greater European structure, such a union of nations could keep German power in check. Finally the continent would be at peace, and Europe would never again have to endure a devastating world war. That was the great European hope. Movement toward this dream began with The Treaty of Rome, signed in 1957, bringing the European Economic Community (EEC) into existence.

The treaty removed economic barriers between the original member states – the Republic of Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. This treaty became the seedling that has grown into the 28 member states of the European Union today with a population of 500 million citizens, the greatest trading bloc in the world.

However, and in spite of all their on-going efforts, European leaders will not prevent another world war. Prophecy paints a picture of an end-time European entity that is described as a beast power waging war on a scale far greater than any conflict before it (see Revelation 13 & 17 and Daniel 7).

Daniel 7:7 reveals that a great European power – a particularly ambitious and cruel power – will conquer millions, enter and take control of much of the Middle East (Daniel 11:40-45), and draw the nations into a terrifying world war. This beast is described as a military beast that will be “dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong…(with) huge iron teeth…devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet” (Daniel 7:7). A cruel and ambitious dictator the Bible also likens to a “Beast” will lead a European army. This man will be the 7th leader to head a resurrection of the old Roman Empire. This time it will be a final resurrection. Germany will once again, and for the last time, dominate Europe politically and militarily.

To further understand this final rise of the Roman Empire, including its coming dictator, we must next examine how the Catholic Church played a pivotal role in the rise of kings and kingdoms in Europe; and what prophecy has to say about the Vatican’s future involvement in European politics.

 

 

CHAPTER

4

Popes, Kings & Germany

The prophetic books of Daniel and Revelation reveal that a great false church and a confederation of nations will eventually combine their influence and resources to establish the most destructive alliance this world has ever known.

Prophecy discloses that after Rome’s fall in A.D. 476 there were to come seven European “kings” or leaders who were to temporarily revive the Roman Empire, garnering the full support of the Roman Church to fulfill their ambitions.

European history makes it clear that the Catholic Church, allied with European kings down through the years, made it possible for ambitious kings to unify large areas under the banner of what could then be termed the Holy Roman Empire. Revelation 17:1-2 says the great harlot (false church) involved herself with secular politics: “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication…”. God describes this “unholy” alliance between church and state as an act of spiritual fornication. God hates the “harlot” with her poisonous doctrines and destructive politicking.

The Apostle John, in the Book of Revelation, revealed just how influential the Catholic Church would become down through the centuries. An angel had explained to John that “the waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues (languages)” (17:15). No other Church in history has exercised so much power! This fallen woman who “sits on seven hills” (17:9) is the great false church whose headquarters is in Rome, Italy today. For over 2000 years Rome has been known as the “city on seven hills”. The Catholic Encyclopedia states: “It is within the city of Rome, called the city of seven hills, that the entire area of Vatican State proper is now confined” (The Catholic Encyclopedia “Rome” Thomas Nelson, 1976).

A study of history asserts that after Rome’s collapse in A.D. 476, her “deadly wound” was later healed. Europe once again became dominant in the world. History has confirmed that six of the seven kings or leaders of the prophesied revivals of the Roman Empire, in cooperation with the Roman church, did come to power in Europe. Below you will see the historical fulfillment of prophecy regarding the Pope-King, Church- State relationship. We await the seventh and final revival of the Holy Roman Empire. The six revivals thus far are:

• In 554 A.D. Emperor Justinian restored the Roman Empire and proclaimed himself the agent of God, the emperor of the resurrected Holy Roman Empire; he acknowledged the supremacy of the Pope. This was the FIRST RESTORATION of the Roman Empire in Europe.
• In the year 800 A.D. Charlemagne, a zealous Roman Catholic of Germanic heritage, was crowned by Pope Leo III as Emperor of the Romans. This was the SECOND REVIVAL of the Holy Roman Empire. During his reign of forty-six years Charlemagne undertook fifty-two military campaigns. He brought much of western and central Europe under his power. Charlemagne’s empire encompassed today’s modern territories of Germany, France, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, Hungary, part of Spain, and most of Italy.
• The alliance between the Papacy and Germany was to play out again and again in European history. In 962, the new emperor of the German nation, Otto the Great, revived the European Empire (the first German Reich) and was crowned Holy Roman Emperor by Pope John XII. Once again Germany became the pivot point of Europe. This Reich (Empire) became known as the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation – the THIRD REVIVAL.
• Charles the V’s Catholic Hapsburg Empire dominated Europe and other parts of the world, including Spanish America in the early 1500s. This was the FOURTH of the “seven mountains on which the woman sits The fourth of the seven revivals of the Holy Roman Empire saw the Catholic Church playing a major role. Remember, a mountain is a symbol of nations or an empire (revelation 17:9).
• One of history’s most prominent dictators was France’s Napoleon Bonaparte, who was to lead the FIFTH REVIVAL of the Roman Empire in Europe. In 1804 Napoleon crowned himself emperor of France, and later that year at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris Pope Pius II crowned Napoleon as the leader of the Holy Roman Empire of Europe.
• After Napoleon came the SIXTH AND MOST DESTRUCTIVE REVIVAL of the Roman Empire – the Hitler/Mussolini axis. What happened in Germany from 1933 to 1945 gives us the most recent example of Catholic compliance with secular power.The Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli (the future Pope Pius XII; 1939-58) and Germany’s Vice Chancellor, Franz von Papen, formally signed a concordat between the Holy See and the German Reich on July 20, 1933. Hitler used the concordat to imply that he had won the church’s approval, thereby gaining international approval of his Nazi regime. So why did the Catholic Church sign the agreement? The welfare of 20 million Catholic souls in Germany was at stake. The Pope did not like Hitler, but was determined to protect the Vatican’s interests in Germany.In return, the Church agreed to stay out of politics and not criticize Hitler. The concordat was widely viewed as a diplomatic victory for the Nazis.

  Historian John Cornwell makes the observation in his book, Hitler’s Pope (p.7, paperback 2008 Edition): “The abdication of German political Catholicism in 1933, negotiated and imposed from the Vatican by Pacelli with the agreement of Pope Pius XI ensured that Nazism could rise unopposed by the most powerful Catholic community in the world…The perception of papal endorsement of Nazism, in Germany and abroad, helped seal the fate of Europe” (Emphasis added). The legacy of Eugenio Pacelli, Pius XII, is stained by his failure to publicly condemn Hitler’s Final Solution during the Second World War.

  The Vatican has been highly criticized for its failure to speak out against Hitler during his reign of terror. Israel to this day is angry with Vatican officials for wanting to make Pope Pius XII a saint.

  Six Kings have fallen. We now watch for prophecy to be fulfilled of the rise of a seventh king who will lead a final European super state. Allied with this seventh king will be ten other leaders or rulers who will “receive authority for one hour (symbolic of a short time) as kings with the beast” and “give their power and authority to the beast” (Revelation 17:12- 13). Notice the time frame of these final events in verse 14 of Revelation 17: “These (the Beast and the ten allied rulers or leaders) will make war with the Lamb (Jesus Christ), and the Lamb will overcome them…”

  Before studying into end-time prophecies regarding this final dictator, it is important to appreciate the economic strength of Europe and how it relates to the financial power of the Beast system. This will be discussed in the next chapter.

  5

  Germany,

  An Economic Giant

  The European Beast of Revelation will be both a political and economic system influenced by a counterfeit Christian Church (Revelation 17:1-7) that will suffer the greatest collapse the world has ever seen. This enormous financial power will be “mourned” by the world in a self-pitying “eulogy” found in Revelation 18.

  The description of this end-time “Babylon” is that of an economic giant esteemed by the world for its influence on global trade: “And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen…For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies (luxuries)” (verses 2-3).

  What this prophecy tells us is that Europe will stand as an economic powerhouse just before Christ returns. This is coming to pass. Though Europe struggles today with massive debt, it still remains the trading center of the world whose engine is the German economy.

  Today Germany has become Europe’s indispensable financial power. Germany is the largest economy in the European Union (EU) and the fourth largest in the world, the largest being America, then China, then Japan, then Germany. As Europe’s industrial powerhouse and the world’s second largest exporter (China is no.1 and America is no. 3), the German economy has single-handedly stopped the eurozone from spiraling into a depression. Also, it is important to remember that the German-dominated European Union has surpassed Asia and America as the world’s largest single market, becoming the “goods trading capital” of the world.

  Just how important is a thriving European market to the world Economy? It is immensely important! The EU is China’s largest trading partner, and America trades more with the EU than it does with China. The relationship between the United States and Europe is absolutely crucial. Total US investment in the EU is three times higher than all of its investment in Asia.

  Germany’s manufacturing prowess sets it apart from other nations of the world. Small and medium businesses, often family owned, make up the backbone of German manufacturing. German companies specialize in making machinery, engines, heavy equipment, cars, trains, power tools, and motors that use sophisticated technology.

  German goods are sought after throughout the world.

  “Made in Germany” matters to people. It matters especially to the emerging market economies of Asia and India. China and India are looking to expand their German heavy equipment, trains, cars, and motor devices.

  German businesses employ millions all over the world. Below is an abbreviated list of some of the better-known German Companies:

• German cars: BMW, Daimler-Chrysler (makers of Mercedes-Benz), Volkswagen, Audi, and Porche – all commonly seen on the streets of America today.
• Phone company, T-Mobile, is a subsidiary of Deutsche Telecom AG headquartered in Bonn, Germany.
• Bayer AG, a German pharmaceutical company, is the maker of Bayer Aspirin.
• Deutsche Bank (literally, German Bank) has a large global presence employing over 100,000 in over 70 countries, notably Europe, the Americas, Asia,-Pacific, and the emerging markets… at times being the largest foreign exchange dealer in the world on a yearly basis.
• Siemens: Europe’s largest electrical engineering company employs approximately 360,000 across 190 countries. They make the world’s fastest trains, along with hospital diagnostic equipment, including ultra-sound and x-ray equipment found in hospitals around the world. They build engines used in the solar and oil/gas energy sectors…and much more.
• BASF is the largest chemical company in the world having customers in over 200 countries. It supplies products to a wide variety of industries.
• Thyssen-Krupp, one of the world’s largest steel companies, additionally develops, constructs, and refits submarines and naval surface vessels.
• Allianz, a multinational financial service company, includes insurance. Allianz has operations in over 70 countries. PIMCO, the largest bond fund in the world, is owned by Allianz SE.

Germany holds the economic fate of Europe in its hands – something that was unthinkable even ten years ago. Global trade impacts all nations and Europe is the hub of global trade. That is why we need to keep an eye on Europe, Germany in particular.

A future European-centered superpower where the component countries are symbolically described as iron mixed with clay, “partly strong and partly fragile” (Daniel 2:40-44), is prophesied to trouble the whole world. Germany will be the spine of this power.

In the next chapter we will take a look at prophecies regarding the end-time dictator who will lead this coming monstrosity, the Beast.

 

CHAPTER

6

Brutal European Dictator

There are many Bible prophecies that come together to help us understand where we are in relation to future events. We now stand on the brink of an emerging world power that only awaits the appearance of a monstrous dictator who will plunge the world into a time of terror unlike any other in world history.

The world will soon see this charismatic European dictator walk onto the world stage, swaying millions. We see in this tyrant some similarities to Adolf Hitler during his early success. As the Great Depression settled in, Hitler promised jobs, protection from the Communist threat, and a restoration of German pride. In the 1930s he became hugely popular, not only in Germany but in other parts of Europe. His twelve-year rule, however, permanently scarred Germany, Europe, and the world in general. His prophesied successor will do even worse.

The German people, economically depressed and desperate for security, grabbed hold of Hitler’s promises and elected him to national prominence. He is a prototype of the end-time dictator who is called “the Beast”, the term denoting either a vicious political empire or its leader. This tyrant who will soon appear on the world stage clothes himself in the mantle of greatness. His narcissism will swell to enormous delusional proportions; he will demand absolute obedience of his subjects.

Take note that Revelation transitions from speaking of the revived Roman Empire as a “beast” to speaking of the political and military dictator of that empire as being the “Beast” (see Revelation 17:12-13; Revelation 19:19-20). Revelation 19:19 says that the Beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gather together to fight against the returning Jesus Christ. The Beast described here clearly identifies an individual who will lead the kings of the earth and their armies to literally fight Jesus Christ when He returns (Revelation 19:11-20).

Christ deals with his (the Beast’s) rebellion and arrogance by casting him into the “lake of fire burning with brimstone.”

The Bible describes the nature of this final European Beast- dictator in Daniel 11:36-38. Daniel 11:36 says, “Then the king (the coming “Hitler”/dictator) shall do according to his own will; he shall exalt and magnify himself above every god, shall speak blasphemies against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the wrath has been accomplished; for what has been determined shall be done.” This man is also known as the King of the North mentioned in Daniel 11:40.

The Beast’s megalomania is Hitlarian; he desires the obedience and worship of the people. In verse 37 of Daniel 11 we are told, “He shall regard neither the God of his fathers nor the desire of women, nor regard any god; for he shall exalt himself above them all.” This dictator will not be interested in religion personally, but other prophecies inform us that he will accept the backing of the great false church (Catholic Church) in order to advance his agenda:

“But in their place,” this tyrant will “honor a god of fortresses (having military might and power), and a god which his fathers did not know he shall honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and pleasant things” (Daniel 11:38). And who might that god be? Please review Revelation 12, especially verses 9-12 to understand who the one is who inspires this maniacal leader.

The passage in Daniel 11:38 describes a European leader who channels his energy and resources to create the greatest military machine ever – one that will astound the world! Those who support him will be rewarded with positions of power and wealth. This is the same dictator who will use his power to persecute and kill many of God’s saints, “It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue and nation.” (Revelation 13:7).

This great military-political leader (called “the Beast” in Revelation 13:7, Revelation 17:12-13, and Revelation 19:19-20) will seek to dominate and control all nations. He will bear responsibility for warfare on a scale unseen in human history. His aggression will culminate in the armies of the world gathering at Armageddon (Revelation 16:14-16). From Armageddon millions of soldiers will then march 55 miles south to Jerusalem to fight against Jesus Christ himself.

The war or battle against Christ is called “the battle of the great day of God Almighty” (Revelation 16:14). But where will the battle take place? The prophet Joel tells us that this cataclysmic battle will take place near Jerusalem: “For behold, in those days and at that time… I will also gather all nations, and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; and I will enter into judgment with them there” (Joel 3:1-2).

The valley of Jehoshaphat, also called the Kidron Valley, is located between Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives and extends to the south of the city. The world’s armies will move southward from Megiddo (Armageddon) to fight Jesus Christ at Jerusalem.

Millions of soldiers will die as they attempt to war against Jesus Christ. Take note of the results of that battle: “For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem… Then the LORD will go forth and fight against those nations, as He fights in the day of battle. And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives” (Zechariah 14:2–4). Notice the hellish vengeance poured out on those rebellious armies of the world: “And this shall be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, and their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths” (v. 12).

The charismatic yet brutal European dictator is destroyed by Jesus Christ. The Apostle John writes: “Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh” (Revelation 19:20–21).

In our next chapter we explore a fascinating connection between Germany and ancient Assyria. Germany plays a central role at the time of the end and displays many of the war-like traits of the ancient people known in the Bible as the “Assyrians”.

CHAPTER

7

The Assyria-Germany Connection

Certain historians see a connection between ancient Assyria and the Germanic people of today. Space in this short booklet does not allow us to go into this subject in depth; however, the following is a brief discussion about the Assyria-German connection.

Increasingly, research is revealing that ancient Assyrian tribes (later known as Germani) migrated from the area of the Black or Caspian Sea where they had been “neighbors of the Hebrews” (Natural History, Pliny the Elder–Gaius Plinius Secundus, Bk 4, 12; Germany: Her People and their Story, — p. 10). The Roman historian Tacitus (98 AD), and Julius Caesar (60 BC) reveal that tribes living along the Rhine were called Germani (Encyclopedia Britannica, Vol. 3, 11th ed., p. 830).

The Biblical genealogy shows the ancestor of the great majority of Germans and Austrians (modern-day descendants of the Assyrians) is Asshur, the grandson of Noah through Shem (Genesis 10:22). The Assyrian Empire developed from the city-state of Assur (named for Asshur, a son of Shem – one of Noah’s three sons – see Genesis 10:1, 22). Asshur was a brother of Arphaxad, an ancestor of Abraham, who was the father of the Hebrews (Genesis 11:10–26). Most of the ancient Assyrians eventually moved westward from the Bible lands into Europe. Speaking of the immigration of the Germans into Europe, Smith’s Classical Dictionarystates in the article “Germania” on page 361: “There can be no doubt that they (the Germans) immigrated to Europe from the Caucasus and the countries around the Black and Caspian seas.”

M. H Gayer writes in his book, The Heritage of the Anglo- Saxon Race (1941, p.72): “It is startling that the modern Germans are the descendants of the migrants who originally came into Europe from Asia about the beginning of the Christian era from that part which framed the ancient empire of Assyria. In modern Germany we witness the same attitude towards us as the Assyrians of old displayed toward the Israelites.”

The Assyrians were known for their warrior culture. The Encyclopedia Britannica notes that the Assyrians were famous for their cruelty, fighting prowess, and monuments (Encyclopedia Britannica, vol. 1, 15th edition: p. 648). In time Assyria dominated the Middle East and was used by God to punish the Northern tribes of Israel (2 Kings 17).

Ashur was originally the main god of the city of Ashur, the capital of Assyria. Ashur became the national god of all of Assyria. The Assyrians viewed Ashur primarily as a warrior god who gave victory against their enemies. In the front of the temple Assur in the city of Assur we find displayed a swastika on a limestone slab—(In Search of…The Origin of Nations, White, p. 311). And of course the swastika was the national symbol of Nazi Germany. Is this more than an interesting coincidence?

The oldest city in Germany is “Trier”. German tradition says Trier was founded more than twenty centuries before Christ. In a German textbook we find: “The inhabitants of Trier maintain that their city is the oldest in all Europe…Trier was founded by Trebeta, a son of the famous Assyrian King Ninus. In fact, one finds … in Trier the inscription reading, ’Trier existed for 1300 years before Rome was rebuilt’” (Josef K. L. Bihl, In Deutschen Landen, page 69). Remember, the migrations of tribes and peoples (mankind) following the great Noatian flood lead away from the Middle East.

This abridged commentary says that historical research and tradition point to the fact that many of the modern German- speaking peoples are descendants of the ancient Assyrians.

CHAPTER

8

America Punished

The United States will soon experience an unparalleled time of war, financial ruin, and national suffering. Why will catastrophe soon fall hard upon us? The answer lies in our behavior as a people. God is enraged with our leaders, both secular and religious, and our citizenry. We arrogantly disrespect Him, look upon His great moral laws with disdain, use His name as an epithet, and consider His Bible – His instruction manual – to be completely irrelevant in this modern world.

The fact that most of our “christian” churches pay attention to a mere partial list of the Ten Commandments serves to highlight their arrogance; they are “empty vessels” that lead the people astray. As a nation, we spend massive amounts of time on our hobbies, watching television and sports events.

Little time, even in “christian” homes, is given to studying the word of God. As our nation has distanced itself from God – in one telling instance forcing the removal of a courthouse monument of the Ten Commandments out of public view– the consequences of such foolishness are easy to see, at least for those willing to face the truth. When God punished the nations of Israel and Judah, He used foreign powers, severe weather conditions – even drought, and famine – and plagues of all kinds to chastise His people. Look for God’s punishing hand to strike America as we embrace sin at all levels of society—It is a nation that has rejected the law of God (Hosea 4:6).

United States and Britain in Prophecy

Amazing as it may seem, the people of America, Britain, and other democracies of Northwest Europe make up many of the modern descendants of the “lost” tribes of Israel (Ref. Matthew 15:24). The United States and Britain do not appear in Bible prophecy under their present names, but God does identify these nations through their ancient names and prophetic description in the end-time. The leading tribes of Israel are identified today as America (Manasseh) and Britain (Ephraim), both end-time descendants of the Tribe of Joseph. No other nations in history fit more perfectly the description of the end-time “sons” of Joseph. This is a prophecy for the final days as revealed in Genesis 49:1.

Notice Jacob’s prophecy about Joseph in the last days: “Joseph is like a grapevine that produces much fruit, a healthy vine watered by a spring, whose branches grow over the wall.

Archers attack him violently and shoot at him angrily, but he aims his bow well. His arms are made strong by the hands of the Mighty God of Jacob.” (Genesis 49:22-24). It is through Joseph’s descendants, Ephraim and Manasseh – Britain and America – that the birthright promises of great material blessings and national greatness are found.

Genesis 48:19 prophesied that America was to become a great nation, while Britain was to become a “multitude of nations”, which is a reference to the British Empire. The British Empire encompassed over five times the territory of the Roman Empire and ruled over four times as many subjects. Prophetic Punishment

Prophecies in Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Hosea and Isaiah tell us that God will punish the end-time descendants of Jacob (especially America, Britain, and Judah) because of our moral decay and hatred of His law. Our escalating decadence has brought us under condemnation from God. He loathes the fact that the descendants of Jacob have “defiled themselves with idolatry, despised His word and profaned His Sabbaths” (Ezekiel 22:7- 13). Because of our moral degeneracy God says, “I will scatter you among the nations, disperse you throughout the countries, and remove your filthiness completely from you. You shall defile yourself in the sight of the nations; then you shall know that I am the Lord” (verses 15-16).

The Bible states that God will use the end-time German-led Beast power as a “rod” to punish the United States, Britain, and much of northwestern Europe. God labels this end-time catastrophe that falls upon the lost ten tribes of Israel “the time of Jacob’s trouble”: “Alas! For that day is great, so that none is like it; and it is the time of Jacob’s trouble, but he shall be saved out of it” (Jeremiah 30:7).

The Bible also calls this time of severe suffering the “Great Tribulation”. God revealed to Daniel that a severe time of trouble would occur at the “time of the end”: “At that time Michael shall stand up, the great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people (tribes of Israel at the end-time); and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation, even to that time.” (Daniel 12:1).

Notice America and Britain’s condition when Christ returns, “For behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “that I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah…and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it” (Jeremiah 30:3). Then Jeremiah describes the terrible days ahead of us: “Alas! For that day is great, so that none is like it; and it is the time of Jacob’s trouble, but he shall be saved out of it. For it shall come to pass in that day,” says the Lord of hosts, “that I will break his yoke from your neck, and will burst your bonds; foreigners shall no more enslave them” (Verses 7-8). Notice that the “yoke” and “bonds” that enslave the descendants of Jacob are placed on them by foreigners– enemy nations. It is from this foreign punishment and enslavement that Christ will deliver us at his second coming.

Germany the Rod of God’s Anger

Germany will be the leading nation, the power that drives the Beast, to punish America. There is a disturbing prophecy found in the book of Isaiah, which reveals that a few short years before Christ returns a German-dominated European power will attack Britain and America, Biblically referred to as that “ungodly nation.”

“Woe, Assyria (Germany), the rod of my anger, the staff of my fury! Against an ungodly nation I send him, and against the people of my wrath I command him, to take spoil and seize plunder, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. Yet he does not mean so, nor does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy, and cut off not a few nations” (Isaiah 10:5-7).

Anciently, God used Assyria as “the rod of (His) anger” to conquer and deport the rebellious house of Israel in 721 B.C (II Kings 17:6). Later, God used Babylon as His tool to conquer the sinful house of Judah and to take them captive (Jeremiah 20:4). These punishments serve as types of the end-time punishments that will fall upon the United States and Britain. Notice the prophecy in Hosea 11:5: “…But the Assyrian shall be his king because they refused to repent.” Hosea 9:3 reveals that Britain will actually be conquered by Germany and taken into captivity before Christ returns.

In the Bible we are told that the European beast power will not only conquer America and Britain, but its leader – the King of the North – will move into the Middle East and establish his headquarters in Jerusalem (see Daniel 11:40- 41). This maneuver will cause the nations of Russia, China, and others out of the East to ally together to put an end to the Beast’s aggressive expansion among the nations. A massive 200-million-man army will arise from the lands to the east of the Euphrates River (see Revelation 9:13-19) to confront this German-led European Beast. A devastating war will take place between Europe and a confederacy of nations from the East. The resulting war will kill a third of mankind and will involve terrible weapons of mass destruction (verses 18-19).

Just before the nations of the world completely destroy one another in a massive and disastrous confrontation, Christ will return to save mankind from self-annihilation. In Revelation 17:14 we see that at Christ’s return there is a total destruction of the European beast power. Notice in Isaiah 14:25 what happens to the European Dictator at Christ’s return:

“I will break the Assyrian (European Dictator) in My land (remember, the king of the North, will eventually move his headquarters to Jerusalem) and on My mountains tread him underfoot. Then his yoke (the yoke of slavery that he inflicts on Israel and Judah) shall be removed from them, and his burden removed from their shoulders.”

Finally Jesus Christ will throw this European tyrant into the lake of fire: “Then the Beast (European Dictator) was captured, and with him the false prophet (Catholic religious leader) who worked signs in his presence… These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone” (Revelation 19:20).

The Good News is that soon after Christ returns, the nations of the world will come to see their sins, and worldwide repentance will begin. False religion will cease as the nations turn to God and are blessed by Him. Finally note what God has to say of repentant Assyria (Germany) in Isaiah 19:23-25: “In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria … In that day shall Israel be one of three with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land, whom the Lord of Hosts shall bless, saying, ’Blessed be Egypt, My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel Mine Inheritance.’”

God is speaking of a time ahead, a thousand years of millennial rule by Jesus Christ, when there will be peace on the earth, old enemies will be friends, and all will worship God. Egypt, Assyria (Germany), and Israel will all be on the “same page”, worshiping God. What a wonderful time it will be when hostilities will cease and Egypt, Assyria, and Israel will worship God in the same manner, together.

Warning…

Our land is filled with murder, abortion, drug abuse, pornography, rape, adultery and divorce, to name but a few of our vices. We have become a people who have willingly embraced promiscuity, sodomite relationships, occultism, Sabbath breaking, paganism and theft. We idolize money, and the things it can buy. Americans rotate between marital “partners” at a rate not seen in any other country on earth. We divorce, remarry, and move in and out of relationships with appalling frequency. Our teen pregnancy rates are the highest in the world. Eighty-five percent of the world’s pornography is produced in the USA, and we endure the highest per capita murder rate on the planet. It should come as no surprise that we lead the world in depression and addiction.

The Apostle Paul tells us that prophecies and ancient history are written down for our admonition today (see I Corinthian 10:11). From these examples we should learn not to repeat the same sins of ancient Israel that resulted in their great suffering. God warned ancient Israel that if they disobeyed His laws and embraced decadent behavior, He would bring upon them military defeat and captivity at the hands of their enemies. (Leviticus 26:17,25, 36-38; Deuteronomy 28: 25,49-50; 64-68). Those same warnings apply to us today. Jesus Christ said, “I am the Lord and I do not change” (Malachi 3:6).

God loves America, and that is why He is going to punish us (along with other nations) severely. Having rejected all warnings, thrown out all examples from history, and abandoned all common sense, we have more than proven extreme punishment is the only experience that can bring about our national repentance. Conditions at the time of the end will be so grim that “men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them” (Revelation 9:6).

Where do you stand in the face of the terrible punishment that will soon overtake the nations of this world? We urge you to repent and turn away from the sin that is over-sweeping our world. Begin today to obey God’s great and rewarding laws as written in Exodus 20 in your Bible. Pray that you may be found worthy to escape the terrible punishment that will soon overtake us! (See Luke 21:36)
